Operation Bamboo Garden – A thrilling new age spy thriller is launched

The latest spy thriller on the block, Operation Bamboo Garden, by bestselling author Anurag Anand was released in a glitzy launch event in the capital. The gathering included prominent names from the world of literature, art and media.

“Spies are not the larger-than-life personas that we are used to seeing in movies. They are real people like you and me, who are simply doing the jobs that they are assigned to do,” Anurag said, explaining the unconventional medley of characters that are woven into the book’s plot.

Operation Bamboo Garden is a pacy thriller peppered with unexpected twists and turns. From teenage hackers to middle-aged men seeking nefarious liaisons on dating platforms and from the bustling streets of Jakarta to the winding alleys of Paharganj, the book has all the makings or a big-screen blockbuster.

“I would cast Aaliya Bhatt as Noor Sabah and Rajkumar Rao as Ronit, the protagonist,” said senior journalist, Smita Mishra. “Once I started reading the book, I found it difficult to put it down. The extensive research that has gone behind crafting this story is clearly evident and that is what makes it highly relatable. In fact, ever since I have read the book, I am thinking twice before making a UPI payment via my phone,” she quipped, referring to a particular incident from the story.

Strategic affairs expert, Major Gaurav Arya shared his views on how the book mirrored real-world spy craft. “Some of the incidents that the book talks about have actually happened. The context and names have been changed, so you can technically refer to it as fiction,” he said. His insights into espionage and the beneath-the-surface machinations that shape them left the audience spellbound and craving for more.

“It is one of the best spy thrillers I have read. Your research and understanding of the subject is outstanding,” Rrashima Verma, author of The Royal Scandal, said, terming Operation Bamboo Garden as a book not-to-be-missed.

Naisha Anand, Anurag’s twelve-year old daughter and a published author herself, looked completely immersed in the proceedings. She said that she admired her father’s ability to balance the needs of the family with his work and creative pursuits.

Also present on the occasion were authors – Shaurya Kanojia, Naveen Kundra, Balesh Jindal, Ranjan Sen and Sunil Kaul, gallerists – Meena Singh, Vibha Singh and Ruki Chatterjee, artists – Anjali Misra, Nidhi Bhatia, and other eminent dignitaries including  General Lomas, Colonel Parmar, Vinod Sharma and Satyendra Singh.

Anurag Anand, who is also an award-winning visual artist, will be next seen exhibiting his works at the upcoming Gurgaon Art Fair, followed by a solo exhibition of paintings at the India Habitat Centre. Like his writing, Anurag’s approach to art is one of storytelling, making his works a prized possession for collectors and patrons across the globe.
